SAADANI RESORT – TANZANIA
Saadani Resort is an extraordinary hospitality project at the intersection of wilderness and ocean in Tanzania — the only location in East Africa where safari bush meets Indian Ocean beach. Lotuz Studio’s design responds to this unique dual landscape by creating an architecture that frames both worlds.
The resort is composed of discrete lodge clusters organized along the coastline, with each unit offering views to either the ocean or the wildlife-rich savannah. Architecture is minimal and transparent — elevated timber platforms with canvas and thatch roofs float above the landscape, minimizing ground disturbance while elevating guests into the tree canopy for unobstructed wildlife viewing.
The central facilities — restaurant, lounge, pool, and spa — are positioned at the transition point between bush and beach, designed as open pavilions that capture breezes from both the sea and the inland plains. Evening dining takes place under the stars on a raised deck, accompanied by the sounds of the Indian Ocean and the distant calls of bush animals.
Environmental responsibility is paramount in this ecologically sensitive location. The resort operates on 100% renewable energy, uses composting toilets and natural water filtration, and was constructed using exclusively local materials and labor. Saadani Resort proves that luxury and sustainability are not competing goals but complementary philosophies.
