EHR LAKESIDE VILLA – FINLAND
EHR Lakeside Villa is a residential project in Finland that exemplifies Nordic design philosophy — simplicity, connection to nature, and meticulous attention to craft and detail. Lotuz Studio designed this lakefront home as a place of quiet beauty, where architecture enhances the contemplative experience of Finnish lake living.
The villa is composed of two timber volumes — a main living pavilion and a separate guest cabin — connected by a glazed corridor that frames views of the lake and forest. This arrangement creates intimate courtyard spaces between the buildings, providing sheltered outdoor rooms for each season: a sun-warmed spring garden, a summer terrace for berry picking, an autumn viewing deck for the spectacular fall colors, and a sheltered winter garden.
Interiors are characterized by restraint and warmth. Finnish birch plywood, pale limestone, and white-oiled oak create luminous backgrounds for the changing landscape views that are the true protagonists of every room. A wood-burning sauna — the spiritual center of any Finnish home — is positioned at the water’s edge, with direct access to the lake for traditional cold-water immersion.
The villa is designed to be fully autonomous from municipal infrastructure: a geothermal heating system, solar panels, composting waste treatment, and a filtered lake water supply enable comfortable, year-round self-sufficient living. The building demonstrates that modern luxury and environmental self-sufficiency are not just compatible but mutually reinforcing.
